Things 18-19

I was a bit surprised that any CC images found in Flickr can't be stored in one's own profile but can only be saved on one's own computer - though that might be helpful in other ways.

I found the instructions for YouTube a bit unclear at times but with a little help did manage to complete them - though I have yet to discover where the video has landed up!

In Memoriam - Günter Wand conducting Bruckner 9

I remember hearing this performance or a similar one shortly before Wand died.

Creating a Flickr Account

Flickr has been a name to me for a long time but without quite understanding where it might fit in. I am pleased to have an account and have joined the UoW23 Group and contributed one picture from the two I uploaded to my own Flickr account.

Diigo struggles

I finally managed to activate Diigo by having its own administrator do this from their end. I have added a number of bookmarks and set up the tool bar but not managed to get beyond the first window where you can click on "Highlight Section" - no further window appeared despite several attempts. Is some security device blocking it? So time to move on I think - I hope Deliicious survives!

Diigo and other diegos

Interested to know what Diigo might have been like but the activation e-mail though requested several times (and sent according to Diigo) has never arrived. You can't report a bug until you are activated! So another white hole or a new social space all sharing the abyss.

Reflections not all weak for Reflection Week

Q1:  Which thing have you found most useful so far?

A:  Learning how to go about setting up a blog, how it might be used, and also how to set up a Doodle poll which I'd only used passively up to now.

Q2:  Do you feel more confident online using social media sites?

A:  I had already been using Facebook but felt I was half blindfolded, whereas I feel it a bit easier to navigate now. I had never activated my Twitter account, so I will now see if anything interesting comes in that way.
Q3:  How can you apply what you've learned to your work?

A:   Practical insight into what students increasingly take for granted, but also more confidence to use Web 2.00 selectively, where it seems useful. I was struck by the finding that most Warwick researchers don't set much store by Web. 2.00 as a tool for them.

Q4:  Does this style of delivery suit your learning style?

A:  Yes indeed, as long as there is not too much going on at once. The step by step instructions remain as a permanent rescue line and I will need them for revision - I'm still not up to speed with RSS feeds.

Facebook Inessentials

I still don't find Facebook as smooth to navigate as it might be - sometimes pages move easily back and forth, at other times one has to keep returning to profile. Following Emma's advice I have reset my privacy settings.
I found looking at the British Library interesting as there was information and comments on the Ancient Mariner exhibition. The Library of Birmingham video was both glossy and ghoulish. Facebook could make nothing of "Warwick Option" but found our Library as its first hit.

Retweetiania

I have changed to the new Twitter which might not be quite the same as in the Step by Steps but I seem to be making out even though I retweeted a message but have no idea where it went. I have learnt you can only activate something you are following from certain screens and not from others.

Returning to Twitter

I set up a Twitter account a year or two ago but it refused to know me, so pleased to have renewed it again thanks to Emma's help
